Survey 2025: Insights for beverage distribution in Greece

The recent research on consumer trends in beverages conducted by Ierax Analytix for FOOD EXPO and exclusively presented during the 1st International BEVERAGE SUMMIT by Founder & Market Analyst Haris Lalatsis reveals interesting insights concerning companies distributing beverages.

According to the research, the top three beverages in quantities distributed are water/sparkling water (71%), juices (57%), and soft drinks (lemonade, orangeade, pink grapefruit) with 50%.

The most frequent problem in beverage distribution is parking (41%) and lower demand (21%). The parking issue indicates the need for better infrastructure and planning in urban areas, while lower demand may be due to seasonal fluctuations or changes in consumer trends.

When asked “how informed do you believe/see your customers are about the beverage sector,” 90% answered quite informed. This shows that consumers have access to information and are aware of their choices.

The most frequent characteristic of a successful collaboration with customers is speed (43%) and delivery reliability (24%). Speed and reliability are crucial for success in the beverage sector, as consumers demand quick and reliable service.

In collaboration with retailers, distribution companies feel 75% satisfied, with producers/importers 50% neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, and 69% satisfied with wholesalers. The high satisfaction with retailers and wholesalers indicates strong collaborative relationships, while the neutral stance towards producers/importers suggests the need for improvement in these relationships.

Distribution companies are 75% satisfied with HORECA businesses and 68% with small retail (e.g., kiosks). The high satisfaction with HORECA businesses shows the success of these partners, while small retail remains significant for beverage distribution.

Regarding the use of tracking systems for beverages, 93% do not use them. The lack of use of tracking systems indicates the need for technological upgrades and improvement in supply chain management.

If they could change something in the beverage sector tomorrow, 79% would like lower prices. The emphasis on reducing prices shows the need for economic sustainability and competitiveness.

The research by Ierax Analytix reveals a dynamic and competitive beverage market, where consumer preferences and production quality play a crucial role. Distribution companies must adapt to new trends and invest in technology and quality to remain competitive.
