What is ISO 20121?
ISO 20121 is an international standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization to ensure that events—regardless of size—create a positive impact on economic, environmental, and social levels. It applies to any type and size of organization involved in event management, providing guidelines for sustainable event operations and reducing environmental impacts, from waste generation to energy consumption.
The 3 Pillars of ISO 20121
The standard goes beyond recycling and is based on a holistic approach to sustainability:
Environment
- Reduction of waste
- Management of energy and water consumption
- Limiting carbon emissions (e.g., transportation-related)
Society
- Ensuring accessibility
- Respect for labor rights
- Promotion of local culture
- Positive impact on the local community
Economy
- Economic sustainability of the event
- Transparency in transactions
- Support for local suppliers
The acquisition of ISO 20121 certification strengthens FORUM’s commitment to designing and delivering FOOD EXPO with responsibility, ensuring that the event leaves a positive footprint on society and the environment.
